The Ensemble Swing Time to perform at Trillium Cove

The Ensemble Swing Time will be in Concert at Trillium Cove on Saturday June 23, 2011.  The concert will begin at 2:00pm and is open to all.  The concert if offered by the merchants of Trillium Cove as a public service.

The Ensemble Swing Time began in 2006, when the university of Alabama Alumni association contacted the Oak Ridge Community Band to provide entertainment for a function held on the Tennessee Riverboat.  Rather than use all seventy musicians, a small group was formed to provide the music.  The Ensemble evolved from this group.  The 16-piece band performs music arranged in the swing style made popular by Glenn Miller, Paul Whiteman, Benny Goodman and the many popular bands of the swing era.

The Ensemble Swing Time will present a selection of the different style/variety of swing music.  The music of the swing era draws from the whole realm of compositions from the classics to the popular.  The concert will feature music written or arranged by Berlin, Rogers, Gray, May, Nestico and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Jim Colegrove, the Ensembles director, is a Nashville, Tennessee native.  His family moved to California at the end of WWII and settled in Glendale, a suburb Northwest of Los Angeles.  Colegrove attended school in Glendale.  He formed and directed the Verdugo Swing Society.  The Society evolved from a brass sextet and appeared at Seville Expo 92, Seville Spain.  The success of the Expo appearance was followed by invitations to appear in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, India and Germany.

The Ensemble Swing Time invites all to an evening of the fantastic sounds of Swing -- to return to the musical joys and romance that filled the airwaves and record grooves -- to those ballrooms, nightclubs, college gyms and theaters in which the great bands played.  For those who weren't there, we hope to provide a real feeling of the era and its music, and to join with the audience as we react to the intoxicating sound of swing music.
